Great illustrations. Flawed translation.

I wanted to love this book but I can’t. The illustrations are great, but my main goal with this book was to teach my bilingual child for that this book is flawed. When reading this book, you read two different messages in English and Spanish. The translation is poor. “Let’s order all three!” Is translated to “¡Todo lo quiero comer!”, which means I want to eat everything. Then the next page relays in English that turtles swim under the sea and in Spanish it relays that if you swim in the ocean, you can see turtles. The section on “Calle de la fortaleza” once again has two different messages in English and Spanish and in addition, the English is written in verbose and confusing language, especially for children, who are the intend audience of the book.

We love the pictures, and a great story for my little one.

Awesome Book!

It was so important for me to teach my young son about his culture while also showing him the language. I can’t wait to take him on a trip to San Juan so he can see where his family comes from!
